Beyond the walls of civilisation lie the untamed lands. Most of the world is untamed, wilderness, walked by fell beasts and savage races to whom fighting, survival is their only way of life. To survive out here, without the comforts of the hearth fire or the aid of trade and civilisation, to live requires you to become part beast yourself.

The barbarian tribes survive by becoming the savage, by becoming the beast. Human ingenuity and flexibility combined with the very traits that make the lands so hard to live in, in the first place. They are one with the harsh land they inhabit be it plains, mountains, deserts or blasted wilderness. Supplementing their armies with wild horseflesh and the great beasts that civilisation looks upon in awe.

  • System - Army of the Barbarians is designed for use with OGL games as an NPC resource but primarily for Feast of Crows as an army list and assistance book. You will more than likely find yourself rolling a D20 when you use it. Army of the Barbarians contains rules for heroes-as-units and fractional casualties in Feast of Crows.
  • Presentation - Army of the Barbarians makes limited use of art in order to remain easily printed and referenced.
  • Keynotes - Army of the Barbarians lends body and thought to the role and tactics of the Barbarian Horde in the fantasy genre. Even though it is primarily designed with Feast of Crows in mind it, it could find use in a wider context.
  • Design Notes - In coming up with ideas for the role of Barbarians in fantasy warfare many people think only thematically, they do not think of the wider warfare implications of warbeasts, magic, healing spells and so on. I tried to cover as many angles as possible, placing the Barbarian army within the context of the games and genre, rather than 'just' as Barbarians.
